Take Action

Take Action

I had a conversation the other day with a friend and he was telling me that he’s not doing well financially and he’s not happy with his life because opportunities hadn’t come up yet, his paycheck isn’t enough, and he wants to make more money to have a more comfortable life. I asked him: “if you had an infinite amount of money and you could spend it as you wish, would you be happy?” He answered: “what’s the point of having so much money?”; “Then, money isn’t the problem, you are the problem,” I said. To be honest, I’ve been in the situation my friend was describing, too. I wasn’t happy with my job, with my relationship, with my friends, and I was blaming the circumstances surrounding my life, the government, the lack of money etc. Until the day I realized through coaching that whatever happens in my life is my responsibility, and more importantly, in order to thrive, overcome difficulties and let go what’s keeping me behind is to TAKE ACTION.
What ‘taking action’ means and how can you start?
It means to start chasing your goals, to act upon your dreams and aspirations. Let me tell you a few examples. Let’s say you want a better income. If the company you’re working for has no advancement opportunities, then you should find another job, search what it needs to find a new job, build your resume and take action. Should you want to build your own company, decide if it is going to be a product or services, or both, make your research, believe in yourself and launch your product/services (take action). Let’s say, you want to go to college. Then, study and go to college, or you might want to turn your hobby into a dream career; then work hard and make it a reality. Taking action is the first leap from theory to practice. Although it may seem simple to understand, it’s a lot more difficult to execute.
You may not feel ready yet to start that journey, and it’s totally fine. It’s because you’re getting out of your comfort zone, but you have to be well prepared and just make that first step. The first step is always the hardest of all but it’s also the one that paves the way for the rest. Nevertheless, many people don’t take action because they are afraid of failure, especially if they try something different and new for them. As humans, we have so much potential, to grow, to learn, to experience new things, and the fact that the fear of failure keeps us away from exploring that potential, it’s really sad. Remember when you were a kid trying to ride a bicycle for the first time? If you were afraid that you might fall, then you, and almost everyone would have never learned how to cycle. It’s totally normal to face difficulties and make mistakes, but you have to learn from those mistakes and take action again, and this time you will be wiser and more experienced than before because you’ve seen what worked and what didn’t.
Take charge of your life. Make a list of your habits; which you want to keep and which you want to get rid of, the skills you want to develop, review your relationships with your spouse, your family, your friends, work on yourself, and take action. Be generous, kind, humble, have integrity and don’t be defensive. Remember: Taking action means being on the offense.
Last but not least, do your best. Whatever you want to do, to accomplish, to change, give your best self. For example, if you want to write an essay, go to the library, study, make your research, ask for advice from experts of your profession; even if you want to build a car or a robot, or you want to become a better teacher, a better parent, a better human being, give 110% of yourself, and you will see the outcome that you desire.
I would like to close this article with a quote from Tony Robbins:
“The only impossible journey is the one you never begin.”
