Realization – Part of Chapter VI of the upcoming book “Find Your Passion”

Realization – Part of Chapter VI of the upcoming bookFind Your Passion

Realization is all about designing your career transition plan and executing it. How can you practically cover others’ needs? Furthermore, how can you decide the best ways for you to fulfill them? Whether you want to start your own passion-based business or land your dream job, you really need to take action!

What is your dream career?

For you to design your career transition plan, you need to connect your passion with the market. Covering human needs is necessary. What’s also necessary is for you to integrate your passion into the career you want to create. Imagine your new career will be your dream career! Now, imagine your dream career, whether it’s a new role in your current company, a new job, or a business, as your dream house! Is it a villa? A palace? Your call! Now, in this book, we focused on discovering your passion because it’s the foundation of your dream houseyour new dream career. That means that passion is the most important element for you to create a career with more impact, more income, and more fulfillment.

To grasp this, I want you to imagine that you are in a career where everything is great, except for your day-to-day tasks. Your compensation, your relationships with your colleagues, managers, and boss, your workplace and company’s culture, your level of freedom, the purpose that your company serves, as well as the opportunities you have for progression and development! Everything is great! Except for your passion – because passion is about the day-to-day tasks you do in your day, the process, not a goal. Would you be fulfilled at work? Sure!

Would you be in the level of fulfillment you can reach? No. Will you be able to reach your true personal and professional potential? No. Will you be able to make more impact and more income? Maybe. If this happens, it won’t be even close to the impact and income you could be making by following your passion! That’s why passion is the foundation of your dream career.

Your passion is all about what you do in the majority of your working hours. Put it in another way, when you want to offer a gift to someone, what’s the first question that comes to your mind? “What would they love?”, right? You think about the content of the gift first. Then, you think about the package! Is the package important? Absolutely. Is it worth without the content? No! Unless the package is the gift itself!

On the other hand, for you to turn your passion into your dream career, you need also to clarify the other parts of your dream house. This way, your dream house will be complete! Here are the key elements for you to take into account to create your dream career:

Relationships: Are expectations clear? Is there trust, authenticity, and effective communication between you and your business partners, customers, colleagues, managers, and employer?

My company: Is the culture transparent and aligned with your values? If so, is it inclusive?

Freedom: Do you have flexible working times, fully customized to your unique needs?

Compensation: Financial security and high salary are just a part of it. How’s your overall compensation package, including benefits, vacation, equity, and the like?

Workplace: Does the workplace promote teamwork and your well-being?

Ownership: Do you have enough and transparent opportunities for initiatives and progression?

Development: How aligned are your day-to-day tasks with your passion? Furthermore, how often does your employer invest in your career and personal development?

Because passion and personal development are not enough for your engagement. Relationships without meaning at work, a toxic culture, poor leadership, an uninspiring workplace, as well as lack of enough opportunities for progression can all quench your passion.

Did you know that, according to Gallup, as of June 14, 2020, “the percentage of “engaged” workers in the U.S. – those who are highly involved in, enthusiastic about, and committed to their work and workplace – ” is only 31%? That’s only one-third of America’s workforce! That’s the biggest drop in engagement since 2000!

“The percentage of workers who are “actively disengaged” – those who have miserable work experiences and spread their unhappiness to their colleagues – was 14%. The remaining 54% of workers are “not engaged” – they are psychologically unattached to their work and company. These employees put time, but not energy or passion, into their work. Not engaged employees typically show up to work and contribute the minimum effort required. They’re also on the lookout for better employment opportunities and will quickly leave their company for a slightly better offer.”, Gallup also underlined.

If you’re an employer, a manager, or in a leadership position, don’t say “Yeah, sure. But this is not the case for me and my team. We’re doing fine.” I challenge you to constantly evaluate your people’s engagement, especially during these challenging times. You don’t have to do this with us, but please do know and care where your people are right now.

Now, whether you want to be a “passionpreneur” or a “dream job winner”, take some time to reflect on the engagement model above. Feel free to have a look at your previous answers to the vision exercises in the “Awareness” part of the “Find Your P.A.S.S.I.O.N method”. Plus, ask yourself aloud the following questions, one by one. Write down your answer to the first question and also rate your current situation on a scale of 1 as minimum and 10 as maximum. Then, move on to the next question:

  • What do I consider meaningful relationships at work and how meaningful are they now?
  • Are the culture and mission of the company aligned with my values? If so, where are they? Where they aren’t?
  • How much freedom do I have?
  • How satisfactory is my total compensation package?
  • How much does the workplace contribute to my mood and well-being?
  • How satisfactory are the current opportunities for initiatives and progression?
  • How often has the company invested in my personal and professional development?
  • How aligned are my day-to-day tasks with my passion?

Take your time. When you answer all of them, keep reading.
