The Value of Gratitude in Career Clarity – Part of Chapter II of the upcoming book “Find Your Passion” –

If you truly want not only to discover and make a living at your passion, but transform your entire life, then gratitude is going to lead the way for you. Starting your day with gratitude and practicing it on a daily basis is indeed life-changing. Why? Because gratitude is a powerful positive emotion.

Remember also that you and your body cannot feel both a negative and positive emotion at the very same time. One takes over the other’s space. So, every time you feel grateful for what you have and who you are, there’s no space for fear, stress, anger, sadness, etc. There’s just gratitude. And the more you practice it, the more frequently you’ll be experiencing this, or any other powerful positive emotion of the same calibration, such as love. Thanks to gratitude, you change fear for courage, anger for peace, hatred for love, jealousy for compassion and empathy, worry for positivity, pessimism for optimism, greed for appreciation, sadness for happiness, stress for excitement, boredom for fulfillment, emptiness for aliveness. You name it!

Yes, such is the power of gratitude. The best part? It’s 100% free and extremely simple and easy to apply. One of the easiest ways – if not the easiest – is by keeping a “gratitude journal”. You write down when you wake up in the morning three things you’re grateful for that day. Keep them short and simple. They could be the air you breathe, the fact that you are alive and you appreciate your life, your health, your loved ones’ health, the food you can afford to eat, your home, the birds that tweet every day at the dawn, you name it!

Second, you can practice gratitude by doing the following exercise! Ready? Let’s go!

On the count of 3, take two deep breaths with me. Ok? Let’s go. 1…….2……..3. Inhale…………Exhale. Once more. Inhale……….Exhale….I want you to relax…..You are fully relaxed………..right now…….. Great job. Now remember the moment in your life when you felt mostly loved. Take as much time as you wish to recall this moment. Imagine that it’s happening again. Right now. In this moment…

Where are you now?

What are you doing?

Take your time to be fully present in this moment. Feel all the love in you. Feel whatever you feel in your body right now…Think how grateful you are for this moment of love. Where in your body do you feel what you feel? What parts of your body experience more these emotions? Focus there. Feel whatever you feel.

Now, remember the best moment you had in your life. Take as much time as you wish to recall this moment. Imagine that it’s happening again. Right now. In this moment…

Where are you now?

What are you doing?

Are you alone or with someone else?

Take your time to be fully present in this moment. Feel all the joy, happiness, and fulfillment in you. Feel whatever you feel in your body right now…Think how grateful you are for this moment. Where in your body do you feel what you feel? What parts of your body experience more these emotions? Focus there. Feel whatever you feel.

You’re doing great! Now, recall a moment in your day so far that you’re truly grateful for.

Where is it?

What are you doing?

Are you alone or with someone else?

Take your time to be fully present in this moment. Feel all the gratitude in you. Feel whatever you feel in your body right now…

Fantastic job! Now, I want you to feel all the gratitude from the best moment and the most loving moment of your life, and the moment you’re most grateful for today. Feel all these moments combinedFeel all the gratitude coming from them… Feel the gratitude………..passing through your entire body.

You are amazing! Give yourself a high five and say “I’m amazing!” Go. Do it! You deserve it!

Another way to practice gratitude is through prayer if you believe in God. Although the majority of prayers include gratitude, my goal here is to make sure you include it in your prayer. It can be similar to the simple phrase “Thank you, God, for….”. Thank Him for three things you’re grateful for today.
