Give Unconditionally – Part of Chapter I of the upcoming book Find Your Passion

This is one of the fundamental principles for you to discover your passion and turn it into a career with more impact, more income, and more fulfillment. It’ll give you unique insights on how to accelerate your dream career transition and enjoy your challenging passion journey.

The value of giving unconditionally

Remember the human needs pyramid?

When you give to others without expecting anything in return, you fulfill the highest of human needs, your biggest need: Transcendence. Right at the top of the pyramid is where your fulfillment and happiness “reach their peak”. The place where you start touching your highest form of intelligence; where you feel and become one with something greater than yourself, the whole. Whether you believe it’s God, universe, nature, singularity, or anyone and anything else you believe in, there’s one common element: Your profound need to transcend your ego to create a better world; and you do that through your contribution to society. It’s the legacy you’ll bequeath to the world. It’s what you will be remembered for after the end of your life.

“Ok, Jim. I got the importance of giving. But what it has to do with discovering and making a living from my passion?”, you might ask. It’s crucial for two fundamental reasons. First, it’s because of your emotional state. As we underlined in the Introduction part and the “Give yourself permission” principle, passion is a powerful positive emotion, according to the “being definition”. Remember also that the more positive emotions you experience in your life, the more you’ll attract in your individual energy field (as we saw, every person generates their own electric energy field, based on the emotions that experience more frequently in their life) similar or even more powerful positive emotions, such as passion. That’s why doing things that you love and make you happy is great emotional preparation for your passion discovery. That’s also why you needed to forgive yourself and others in the “Forgiveness” principle we saw before; to release your negative emotions, and start creating emotional space to welcome and experience positive ones!

Now, here’s where giving unconditionally fits in. When you give to other people without expecting anything in return, you come from a place of love and generosity. This is your emotional state; and it’s a pretty powerful one. So, unconditional contribution is a powerful source of positive energy. As a result, when you give, you create even more emotional space for you to experience the powerful emotion of passion! Put it simply, giving makes you feel happy and paves the path to your passion in life! That’s also the reason why people who volunteer tend to enjoy higher levels of happiness in comparison to those who don’t.

The second reason why giving can play a key role in finding your passion and turning it into your dream career is this:

“Give, and it will be given to you”

– Bible, Luke 6:38 –

This is an eternal principle. A law of nature that came to life since the beginning of the cosmos. That is at least a few billion years before human existence. Because remember that positive or negative thoughts bring positive or negative experiences into a person’s life. This is well proven by internationally renowned psychiatrist Dr. David R. Hawkins’s groundbreaking work, ‘‘ Map of consciousness ’’, introduced in his book ‘‘ Power Vs Force ’’, where he showed that emotions have measurable energy and can either foster or negate actual cell life. The more positive the emotion the higher the calibrated energy. For example, the energy of a loving thought is enormously more powerful than that of a negative one.

So, as long as it’s well proven that emotions are energy, then there are various energy fields, relevant to the calibration of specific emotions. Dr. Hawkins calls these energy fields ‘‘energy fields of consciousness’’. They are invisible, like X-rays, and you cannot observe them without quite advanced technological equipment. Computer graphics clearly demonstrated the designs of these energy fields. These energy fields have identifiable patterns, regarding their form and function, from a seemingly unmeaningful mass of data. These patterns are called attractors.

So, emotions are energy in our body, and there are various energy fields, relevant to the calibration of specific emotions; remember also that energy attractors of various strengths are in constant interaction with one another in the phenomenological universe. As a result, they evolve. That means that energy fields in the same calibration-level evolve and reinforce each other. That means that a negative energy field is more likely to attract a negative oneThe larger and more powerful negative field will absorb the weaker negative field. The same applies to energy fields based on positive emotions. Imagine that energy fields are like bubbles. A ‘‘small bubble’’ joins and is absorbed by a larger one. The larger ‘‘negative’’ bubble will attract and absorb the smaller ‘‘negative’’ bubble. And the larger ‘‘positive’’ bubble will attract and absorb the smaller ‘‘positive’’ bubble.

“So, what?’’, you might think. So, everything! It’s all about your intention behind your actions and behavior. It’s about what you think and how you feel, not about what you do. If you give to someone with the expectation, whether you have clearly communicated it to them or not, to get something back, this is not an unconditional contribution. It’s a transaction. Don’t get me wrong here. Thinking in a “win-win” mentality is much better than the “win-lose” or “lose-win” one. Nevertheless, this way of thinking is based most of the time on ego and negative emotions, such as fear and pride (yes, pride is a negative feeling if you check Dr. R. Hawkins’s “Map of Consciousness”). The parties involved in “win-win” interactions want to save their faces, as well as to make sure they won’t lose. So, the keyword here and in the entire principle is unconditionallyYou know that you give unconditionally when you feel the same level of happiness and fulfillment, whether the person who received your contribution knows that you did it or notAnonymity can be a great indicator here.

When you give unconditionally, your actions and behavior are based on powerful positive emotions, such as love and compassion. As a result, you’re more likely to attract energy fields of similar calibration, positive ones. How can these constant interactions among your individual energy field and other ones manifest in your daily life? Simple. You’ll start noticing and discovering “out of the blue” and like “magic” people and resources that you didn’t pay attention to before (even if they’ve always been there!). People who also love to help and support others without agreed or expected benefits. People who admire your courage and commitment to finding a career with more impact and fulfillment; people who would love to share with you their knowledge, experience, and connections to support and encourage you along your passion journey. Your entire world will change, because you will change.

And that’s how you will receive. Because you’ll be coming from a place of service, love, and empathy; not from your ego. And here’s the best part: People feel if you come from a place of “Me”, instead of “We”. That’s right. People do feel, consciously or unconsciously, the emotions you feel behind your words (aka your actions and behavior). They feel if you say what you say and do what you do; whether it’s because you really want to help them; because you really care about them, their success and happiness, or because you just want to get something from them. People feel your intention. They feel your emotions and energy. How? Through their intuition, which is expressed in your body. Their entire body, or a specific part of it, will feel immediately stronger or weaker. That’s how your body corresponds to any type of energy, including other people’s emotions. Although invisible to the naked eye, the impact is there.

Bottom line: Always come from a place of love, compassion, empathy, and authentic interest for others. People will feel that, and will really appreciate you as a person. And when people appreciate you as a person, they begin to trust you. Why is this important? Because if you want to make a living at your passion, you need to network and work with people who trust you; whether they are your prospective clients, employer, colleagues, investors, or employees; whether you want to turn your passion into your dream job or your ideal business, there’s one thing you always need to remember: People work with people they like and trust.

“People work with people they like and trust”

That’s right. It doesn’t matter how great your skills and qualifications are if there’s no trust. Trust is the foundation of every meaningful and long relationship, both professional and personal. We are emotional beings; because the majority of our decisions come from our subconscious mind, where our emotions rule. So, start focusing on the needs, desires, problems, and challenges of others, not yours. By “others”, I mean everyone. Not just the ones you believe they might benefit you. Otherwise, it’s not an unconditional act. And because how you do anything is how you do everything.

Listen to people. Listen carefully. Listen authentically. Listen to help, support, encourage and empower; and the doors that lead to paths of infinite possibilities shall open to you.

Passion-work

  1. Start donating once per month to support a cause that resonates with you. Pick an amount that works best for you and stick to it every month. This way, you’ll move away from fear, scarcity, and any negative emotion and belief to abundance, love, and compassion.
  2. Volunteer at least once per month. Do not volunteer with the intention to put your experience in your resume. Focus on the cause and mission you want to support.
  3. Ask yourself every time before you talk to someone “What can I do for them?”. Do it for one week, and then take it from there. This way you’ll make sure to remember that the most important person in one’s life is themselves (not you).
